What was your path to becoming a therapist?
I have always been interested in mental health and better understanding the complexities of people. I aim to help people gain self-awareness by examining the connection among their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and life experiences as they continuously influence each other. Working in community-based agencies, medical hospitals, and private practice settings has provided me with the rich experience of working with a variety of populations and client needs. I have worked with individuals and couples dealing with trauma, mood disorders, behavioral issues, psychosocial stressors, medical diagnoses, and life transitions. My goal is to help all my clients learn healthy coping skills and empowerment to change maladaptive behaviors and feel content and present in their lives and relationships.
What should someone know about working with you?
My intake process is very collaborative and empathic. I will ask clients to share information about the experiences motivating them to engage in therapy. This assessment process helps me gain a deeper understanding of the client's symptoms, how the presenting problem may be impacting their functioning and quality of life, and how they cope. I take the time to discuss the client’s goals for therapy and what they hope to improve during the treatment process. I believe a key aspect of a successful therapeutic experience begins with the relationship; the therapist and client must develop positive trust, rapport, and a secure connection within this vulnerable space in order to promote impactful, positive change. My approach is individualized and rooted in helping clients gain a deeper awareness of what makes them who they are, learn coping skills, and improve self-efficacy using a psychodynamic and strengths-based lens. Clients may have homework between sessions to build on what's learned.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
Psychotherapy is a field that continues to evolve in order to best serve the needs of our clients. I believe the option of telehealth has proven to be a great method to receive therapy services and ensure mental health needs are being prioritized. I feel fortunate to be able to help clients gain a new appreciation of themselves, a more positive perspective and attitude, and improved coping skills to better tackle what is outside of their control. I’m excited about the integration of therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with mindfulness meditation, to address the mind-body connection in improving wellbeing
